I had really high hopes for these naked baby cakes I made a few weeks ago (I’m hoping that when you read this, you understand that the inflection should be creating the name Naked Baby Cakes and not Naked Baby Cakes…just to clarify. No naked babies have been turned into cakes, or assisted in the production of these cakes.)
I had a vision of these amazing little treats–half cake and half cupcake, showing their insides and outsides and just looking pure and simple. Instead, they just kind of looked gross. I made coconut pecan cake with olive oil buttercream, and added candied pineapple filling. I also made homemade marshmallow fondant (another thing I had extremely high expectations for, but have not given up on).
The cakes themselves tasted phenomenal, I just wish they had delivered a bit more visually, and not caused Sammy to ask “…what are you doing?” after staring for a few minutes. I didn’t realize how bad they looked until that moment.
Someday I will deliver on pretty little naked baby cakes.
